Done with Uni!


Yay I finished uni in Oz this morning! I took my final exam, and now I'm on break for two whole months (although it feels like I've been on break for awhile not gonna lie). I expected much worse from Tuesday morning’s final, but God is gracious! So now I get to show you more pictures of Gold Coast :)

This is probably my last time visiting Surfer’s Paradise, and I’m definitely going to miss it! Also can’t believe that I’ve visited four times in the last four months haha.

Monday morning, my mum and I watched the pelican feeding at Charis’ Seafood restaurant at Harley Park. The shop feeds unwanted fish parts (head, bones, etc.) to the pelicans every day at 1.30pm, and the birds seem to know when it’s 1.30.  We got there around noon and the birds were further out on the shore, but at 1.30pm on the dot they gathered by the shop even before the fisherman came out with the food. They’re really big! Their footprint is almost as big as mine…

Getting Fed

And God is so good to us! It was forecasted to rain all Sunday and Monday, but it only rained before we arrived and late Monday night. It also wasn’t too hot or too cold, and partly cloudy (my mom likes cloudy and I like sunny so it was perfect). It created this crazily beautiful blue sky Sunday evening.

And it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! We went to the city after my last final today and it’s all decked out for the holidays. Since there isn’t Thanksgiving to mark when to start playing Christmas music, there is already bits of it playing here and there. It does feel kind of out of place walking around in a t-shirt and thongs (flip-flops) and seeing Christmas trees everywhere. I guess there is something to look forward to once I go home.

    yay congrats for finishing the finals. we still got a month to go. it must be weird to have Christmas during summer... anyways have fun and can't wait to see u soon <3

There are two campuses: Gardens Point, a 15-minute walk from my apartment, and Kelvin Grove, a 10-minute bus ride from GP. The shuttle bus is free for everyone who has a QUT ID card (I got mine yesterday! My picture looks decent hehe). It’s O-week (O for orientation), and a lot of the clubs had stalls (booths) to advertise. As much as I wanted to have a different uni life from the one I had at SCU, I was still drawn to the music groups, Christian fellowships, and of course Ultimate (Frisbee)! Mini-Adventures

Over the weekend, QUT hosted the Dragon Boat Regatta, and I got to row on the Brisbane river. There were twenty people per boat and twenty teams, so it was a pretty big event. Even though our team didn’t come close to winning, I had a great experience meeting and hanging out with different locals and international students on our team (shown below). I also got drafted to play touch rugby! Maybe. I’ve discovered how bad Aussies are at following up and communication in general. You definitely have to be proactive about everything. We’ll see if this follows through. Team Dragonest! Stereotypical Aussie Tourists

This was one of the reasons I came to Australia to study abroad, and I finally hugged a koala at Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary with my mum yesterday! We rode the bus to the world’s largest koala sanctuary, home to over 130 koalas. It also showcases many different Aussie animals, including various reptiles, birds, and marsupials. Touristy Pic I learned a lot about these Australian animals and realised I’ve held lots of misconceptions about them. Koalas are pretty big (and my mum thought it was a bit heavy) and sleep 18-20 hours/day because their eucalyptus leaves diet doesn’t have much nutrition.
