Ultimate!

"Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above,
coming down from the Father of lights,
with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change."
-James 1:17

       “Stack on me!”
                                   “Cuts early!"
                                                             “Who wants to pull?”
                                                                                                    “Look dump!”

Ah, familiar ultimate (frisbee) jargon. Last night I finally got to play a good game of pickup, and it was fun 😉 It also sounds like we have enough girls to play in the Uni Games in September, which I’m pretty excited about. Bonding over sports has a  similar feel to bonding over music and bonding over religion, although it’s somehow faster and tighter, perhaps because of trust factors? You have to trust your teammate (whom you met 5 minutes ago) to catch your huck, stay on his man, and throw well (or not). Btw, the field is located on top of a car park (parking garage), which is a really clever use of space. It's also makes sense since the entire campus is extremely hilly. My legs still complain every time I walk uphill for an extended period of time.
Pickup Ultimate

Today I went to the park to throw with two guys from my fellowship. I bought a disc last week; it’s probably the most expensive and useless purchase I’ve made so far but the most meaningful. It represents something I enjoy back home and throwing today reminded me of the times when my dad, brother, and I would go throw at LAHS. I felt like my brother as I helped Bryan and Hoang with their forehands. To be honest, they threw better than me after an hour, but it was so encouraging to see them improve so much in such a short time.

Afterwards, we walked to the city for Singapore National Day in Brisbane (except it was nighttime already). There were stalls with activities, Singaporean food, and live entertainment. While we sat on the ground eating Hainanese Chicken and Char Kway Teow (which both tasted disappointingly Chinese), I got a text from Jamie with questions regarding our first Problem Set. Throwback to all the times I got texts from classmates on prelabs and engineering homework at SCU. It feels like I'm in school again.
Singapore National Night!

I also got legit free breakfast this morning! Ashley, who works for the study abroad program and sent us emails while we were still in the US, is here in Australia to visit all the different uni, and she was in Brisbane today. Cat took those who showed up to the Dugout and paid for all the food. One girl ordered avocado toast, which doesn’t make sense since it’s just avocado on a piece of toast and you can easily DIY (read: I make it all the time). I got a bagel with smoked salmon (I miss fish!) and a mango smoothie. Waking up at 7.40am was definitely worth it 😃

Delicious Free Bagel

I talk too much about food. Hopefully the next post won't have so many food pictures. But until then~
